Ellie Comings, SEP

approach & Education

Somatic Experiencing is a core somatic modality in my practice. This method supports body re-connection, trauma recovery, and re-organization of the autonomic nervous system after impactful experiences. This is customized work, tailored to your needs. For three years I studied this approach at Somatic Experiencing International, and graduated from their program in 2021.

I also draw from my education with Kathy Kain (2021 to 2023). This has focused on the use of therapeutic touch and somatic practices to support wellbeing and recovery from developmental and shock traumas. I currently serve on the assisting team for some of these training programs.

Studying politicized embodiment with Staci Haines, in 2021 and again in 2023, has equipped me with an explicitly politicized somatic framework. When we get clear on our values and what we care about, we can use somatics to organize our selves around those commitments, and show up for this moment with clarity and intention. Building a strong foundation here can support change-making work, leadership, self respect, and self trust.

Since 2019 I've been engaged in weekly political education with the freedom school Liberation Spring. These studies have been important for fleshing out the backdrop of social and institutional power dynamics that shape many aspects of our experiences. This shaping often shows up in our lives in the most intimate of ways, but rarely receives proper attention or credit. When we situate somatics and trauma within a political context, we can better understand ourselves, our challenges, how to untangle patterns, and use our vitality to disrupt the reproduction of trauma.

Additionally, I offer biodynamic craniosacral therapy as another entryway in to supporting body connection and wellbeing. These sessions can be useful after injury, during periods of overwhelm, alongside medical treatment, and even preventatively to maintain groundedness. More info on craniosacral therapy can be found here.

In my free time you'll find me on the coast, in the kitchen, learning new things, and engaged in various projects.
