The foundation of my approach comes from studies in Somatic Experiencing, over three years. This modality supports body re-connection, trauma recovery, and re-organization of the autonomic nervous system after impactful experiences.
I also draw from my time with Kathy Kain, using therapeutic touch and somatic practices to support wellbeing. I currently serve on the assisting team for some of these trainings.
I've studied politicized embodiment with Staci Haines, and appreciate the usefulness of her approach for supporting folks in aligning their actions and their values more closely. This is done by building the embodied skills necessary to shrink the gap between the two, and then practicing them intentionally. This supports change-making work, leadership, intimacy with others, self respect, and self trust.
Since 2019 I've been engaged in weekly political education with the anti-colonial, feminist freedom school Liberation Spring. These studies have been important for fleshing out the backdrop of social and institutional power dynamics that shape many aspects of our lives and bodies. This shaping shows up in the most intimate of ways, but rarely receives proper attention or credit. Familiarity with the political context of trauma helps me better understand and connect with the folks I support, and aid in interrupting patterns that impact our wellbeing and the wellbeing of our collective.
Additionally, I offer biodynamic craniosacral therapy as another entryway in to supporting body connection and nervous system health.
In my free time you'll find me playing outdoors, working in my garden, involved in various projects, and getting clever in meeting this political moment.
